It resembles RADEON 9600 PRO RADEON 9700 PRO and at the same time! Take a look here:
As you can see, it is a large square shaped heatsink that makes the appearance of new graphics cards such as the former flagship of the series of high-end of ATI. Here, though, the heatsink is white and comes with a different fan. It is natural that we look at other cooling solutions, is more efficient than the RADEON 9600 PRO, because it requires a 500MHz frequency. Heatsink is fastened by means of two stiff elastic clamps. Plain yellow "bubble gum" serves as a thermal interface between the cold feet and the surface of the die. It is probably not the best heat-conducting material in the world, but doing a pretty good job and protects against clipping the edge of death. Fan is quite silent, by the way.
Otherwise, the PCB is almost identical to the one RADEON 9600 PRO, though some components are missing. To my regret, the engineers from ATI Technology once again forgot to mount the heatsink to the memory chips. On the other hand, remains the same memory frequency, 600MHz (300MHz DDR), and memory chips are not too much heat. The graphics card uses memory chips from Samsung with 3.3ns access time. Access time is quite high, we can not hope for overclocking useful. There is 128MB of memory with 128bit memory bus. The card we got for our tests is just an example, so it does not make sense to talk about accessories and packages. I want to say one thing about the quality of 2D, though: we have been featuring crisp graphics and text in all resolutions up to 1600x1200 @ 85Hz. Picture is blurred a little in 1800x1440, but this is not our standard resolution for display.ATI Overdrive: Not Now ...
The main idea behind the dynamic overclocking technology from ATI, called Overdrive, is quite simple: the R360 and RV360 graphics processors are equipped with built-in thermal diodes to track the core temperature. If the core is cold, the driver can increase the frequency to a certain value. In the case of overheating, the frequency dropped to the bottom. The RADEON 9600 XT, the core can function at 500, 513 or 527MHz, but the latest version of Catalyst drivers support the Overdrive for RADEON 9800 XT card. Overdrive for the RADEON 9600 XT card promises appear in the next version of Catalyst.
